Visually Impaired Advocacy

CAB has been the main voice talking for change on behalf of the blind people in Liberia for over thirty years. Great changes have been made because of CAB advocacy. CAB is dedicated to improving the lives of blind persons by working with them to make sure they are taking part in decision making just like all other persons in the Liberian society.

CAB believes that persons with disabilities and advocates of disability should be actively involved in responding to policies, initiatives or any other matters affecting them. It is only when persons with disabilities speak up for themselves and get involved in policy talks that any government program that seeks to better their situation will have a chance of being truly effective.

In 2003, CAB led the campaign to establish the country’s national Commission on Disabilities and in 2008, CAB led the approval of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities at the Liberia’s National Legislature. The establishment of CAB has brought a major change in the way people think and see persons with disability. Locally, the Liberia Christian Association of the Blind has been engaged in several capacity building efforts of its members ensuring that members are equipped with the right skills required to engage in advocacy.
